About a year ago we purchased a house, It's 35 years old and the septic system has never been replaced or worked on. The person we bought the house from said he had the tank pumped every 5 years. Well a couple weeks after we moved in I noticed that the carpet around the basement toilet was a little wet so I opened the cover to the septic tank and noticed the water level was above the outlet pipe, so I called and had my tanked pumped. After doing a little research on the internet I noticed that the exit pipe was supposed to have a baffle on it, well it didn't. So it was off to Home Depot to purchased a 4" Tee and a 18" piece of 4" pipe for the bottom of the tee so the surface scum wouldn't work it's way up. About two weeks later the water was back over the outlet pipe (Oh Boy). After doing a little "more" research on the internet I found this web site, So this is what I did. I had the tanked pumped again and then located my D-box so I could clean it out (Yuck). The sludge was up to the bottom of my exit pipes and it looked like it was around for a while. After cleaning out my D-box I added a new cover for it and also ran a 4" PVC pipe from the cover to the ground surface and put a screw cap on it so I could check it once in a while. Then came Septic scrub! I poured two bottles of Septic Scrub down my new 4" inspection pipe going to my D-box and let it do it's job.... To our surprise it worked and worked well! It's been ten months and my septic tank water level is just at the bottom of my exit pipe trickling into my D-box. If you have access to your D-box, I recommend doing the some thing I did, Not only cleaning it out or having an inspection pipe but also having a place to pour Septic Scrub down. Thank's guys, You saved me a ton of money!
