I do not know why you should haver a strong smell from the distribution box. The only thing I can thing of is that perhaps you are pumping so much water each time that the system cannot handle the load and backs up. Try setting the pump float to pump more often and less water each time.

I am not familar with the pump system you have but I do not know why you should have so much trouble. Hopefully someone will be able to suggest something.
