The WEB site www.lifewater.org and the page Water for the World has information regarding construction of a cesspool.. I disagree with the statement in the brochure that the sidewalls account for the drainage. In fact most of the drainage is through the bottom. The side walls account for a small portion of the drainage since there is little water pressure to drive the water. Cesspools are difficult systems since they accumulate the waste as well as water. They are subject to failure due to clogging and should be used in soil that has a good per rate. If it is not possible to install a septic tank, I would suggest that two pits be dug. Use the first one as a pseudo septic tank and the second as the water absroption pit. Be sure to include a baffle in the exit of the first pit.
