The first line of inquiry in Pennsylvania is to contact the municipality (township or borough) and ask for the Sewage Enforcement Officer. He or she can provide valuable information about your system and give general guidance about how to proceed. Most repairs will need a permit from the Sewage Enforcement Officer or SEO. The PA Department of Environmental Protection's regional offices (Wilkes Barre, Williamsport, Conshohocken, Harrisburg, Meadville & Pittsburgh) are also good resources. Penn State's Extension Service (offices in every county) has brochures and other information.
